BEYOND THE PIN
Isaac Jared Gonzalez - 2020
Music holds an omnipresent job in our society, and the creation and utilization of music represent an all-inclusive human action. It is universal in all human cultures and is tuned in to by people of all ages, races, and ethnic backgrounds. Music can be utilized as a corresponding method of treatment to alleviate patients burdened with torment, uneasiness, anxiety, and depression. It is a place where people can find their voice, relate to each other, and be safe.
Seeing this happen in our world, my partner, Ricardo, and I decided to create an album of 8-10 songs that has subtle themes directed to mental health such as anxiety, depression, and sadness. We want to inspire our audience to speak up and be open about what they are suffering. We also want to teach our listeners that they can convert any negative energy and translate it into something positive and beneficial. I hope this project serves as a form of therapy in which I translate adverse energy into a creative process. By producing beats and creating creative flows with lyrical bars, we are leaving a message behind that things are going to get better and it is okay to express yourself in any way possible.
I am a senior at Chinquapin Preparatory School and a Posse Scholar for Colby College. I remember the time I first heard music I was so intrigued by the lyrics and the production of the beat. From all the music genres I fell in love with a combination of three-bedroom pop, rap, and alternative rock. Music opened up a new world for me, a world of peace, a world vulnerability, and a world love. Being able to produce my own music has allowed me to create new worlds for others and has given me a voice where I can express myself and my community.
